Travel Logistics

Airplane To & From Salt Lake City

Salt Lake International Airport (SLC) is a direct flight from most major airports other than, of course, Pittsburgh. The major carrier is Delta, but everyone flies here.

Taxi / Shuttle Around Town

Salt Lake is a car city, for better or worse. If you're just attending the wedding, however, you shouldn't need one. You'll be able to easily take a bus ($4), shuttle ($18), or taxi ($30-35) from the airport to the hotel. We'll also have shuttles to all events on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (the BBQ, the ceremony, and the brunch). Those interested can also easily walk to the ceremony (0.6 miles) and may enjoy walking to the brunch (2 miles).

Hiking

For hiking on Monday, we'll organize a car-pool, but if you're going to do any events on your own in SLC, particularly outdoor events, you'll want a car or a friend with a car.

Suitcase Hotel Accommodations

We have reserved a block of rooms at the Marriott University Park. This is by far the best hotel in terms of proximity and convenience for the wedding. The hotel is a 15 minute walk or 2 minute shuttle from Red Butte Gardens, and a 20 minute drive from most of the canyons and hiking, and from the airport.

Telephone: (801) 581-1000 | Map

When calling to request a room, please call between 8:30am and 4:30pm Mountain time Monday through Friday and ask for Layne Elliott, Reservations Manager, or Tangi Asiata, Sales manager. Tell them you're calling for the "Andersen-Fuchs Block" to receive the special rate of $89/night for a "concierge level guest room" (1 King or 2 Double) or $109 for a "junior suite."

Please, please, please make reservations as soon as possible, ideally still in 2010. The Outdoor Retailer's Convention happens in Salt Lake at about the same time as our wedding, and there will be no hotel rooms available in the entire city once it really gets going. We're serious!

Alternate, slightly more affordable hotel option: A slightly more affordable hotel option with in-suite kitchenettes is is the Homestead Studio Suites—Sugar House. We haven't reserved a block with them, so please check directly through their website.

Children's Museums (may be enjoyed by kids of all ages)
Octopus The Living Planet Aquarium: www.thelivingplanet.com
In the aquarium's Marine Hall, you can touch the stingrays in an open pool, and watch the baby sharks--safely, from behind a glass wall! Kids especially like the Giant Pacific Octopus, Moon Jellies and Lionfish. Story time is held in the Sunken Ship.
light bulb Discovery Gateway Museum: www.childmuseum.org
(formerly known as the Children's Museum of Utah)
This hands-on, learning play space's new location in downtown Salt Lake in The Gateway open-air mall is ideal—on the light rail public transportation line, adjacent to shopping (for Mom if she'd like to skip out to Ann Taylor Loft while Dad supervises the kids) and restaurants (family-friendly eateries like Applebee's and California Pizza Kitchen). Plan to spend at least half a day at this fabulous museum. Kids can't get enough of the interactive exhibits, such as areas where you can pretend to be a weather person and read the day's forecast from a teleprompter; use a crane to haul up soft building blocks to make a tower; and climb aboard a real rescue helicopter on the building's roof.
Elephant Hogle Zoo: www.hoglezoo.org
Named for the couple who donated land for the Salt Lake City animal habitat in 1931, the Hogle Zoo features a brand-new Asian Highlands exhibit, with tigers, leopards and linx; Elephant Encounter, which recreates and African plain; and daily live-animal shows at the Wildlife Theatre. Hop on the Zoofari Express, which winds its way through the zoo, allowing for an overview of the entire park.
